Join yoga therapist Alex Bauermeister – in person, livestream, or via recording – for a gentle practice that blends restorative yoga, meditation, and trauma-informed mindfulness. Together, we will cultivate space for metabolizing physical, emotional, mental, and energetic stress, to emerge refueled, rebalanced, and reinspired. This is a practice of self-care to bring forward our most resilient selves, in service of our own wellbeing, and the wellbeing of our relationships and communities.
This class is appropriate for many levels of experience and ability, including beginners and those who struggle to access stillness and relaxation in a fast-moving and guarded world.
ABOUT ALEX’S TEACHING STYLE | Restorative yoga uses gentle, floor-based, prop-supported poses with long holds (5-12 minutes per posture). Alex provides options and variations in her teaching so that you can personalize your practice to the needs, realities, and preferences of your body and nervous system. This includes your own creative license to stay in poses longer, leave poses sooner, to add more movement or sensation, and to substitute poses. Practice will end with meditative self-reflection so that you can take some wisdom off your mat and into day-to-day life.
HANDS-ON ASSISTS | Alex will distribute consent cards so that in-studio participants can indicate whether they’d like to receive assistance in poses. This can include prop set-up help, as well as Alex placing blankets on students to offer nervous-system-soothing pressure and containment. Alex sometimes brings an assistant in to support the workshop and to assist students in postures.
DATE AND TIME | Saturday Feb. 19, 2022 from 6-7:30pm Eastern (or via recording, avail. 48hrs)
HYBRID EVENT | This hybrid workshop will be both in-person and via live-stream. The recording will be available for 48hrs for all participants. For those joining via Zoom, please note that Alex may periodically leave the video frame and mute audio to attend to students in the room. For those joining in-person at the studio, Alex will play music to accompany the practice. Those joining remotely can access Alex’s playlists on Spotify under abauermeister.

You are also welcome to bring your own props instead of using studio supplies, along with any “extras” including eye pillows, weighted blankets, sand bags, or anything else you’d like to carry to the studio. Masks and proof of vaccination required.
PROPS IF PRACTICING VIRTUALLY FROM HOME | Please outfit yourself for virtual home practice with a range of restorative props, including 2 yoga blocks, 1 strap, 1 bolster (or thick cushion), several pillows, and 2+ blankets. Many of these can be found around your home, and some might be worth acquiring. Sandbags, weighted blankets, and eye pillows are also wonderful optional additions to personalize your practice.
