Yoga Diversity Initiative Fundraiser with Johnathon Holmes, Brenna Matthews & Alex Bauermeister at JP Centre Yoga

About this Event

Flow and restore with a mission -- to raise scholarship funds for Boston-area yogis of color who wish to enroll in yoga teacher trainings. Over the past 5 years, the Yoga Diversity Initiative (YDI) has awarded 8 yoga teacher training scholarships to people of color, in an effort to diversify yoga leadership and break down cultural and economic barriers to accessing this practice. Now in honor of YDI's 5th anniversary, let's come together and raise funds for future scholarship recipients!

ABOUT THE CLASS: Johnathon Holmes sets the energy with his mindfully dynamic all levels flow. Then Brenna Matthews brings you deeper into yourself with some grounding yin. Alex Bauermeister brings closure to your practice with final restoration and a meditation to help you take your yoga off the mat and into the world. Hands-on assists will be offered with consent cards, the playlist will match the mood, and all proceeds will benefit YDI. Minimum donation to join the practice is $35, additional donations welcome (class registration and donations all go through Eventbrite).

ABOUT YDI: The Yoga Diversity Initiative (YDI) was born from the awareness that economic and cultural barriers can make yoga inaccessible to People of Color. We recognize there are communities of color who would benefit from yoga practice if classes were more accessible to them. We believe yoga teachers of color can play a critical role in bringing yoga to these communities. Our primary approach to addressing issues of access is supporting scholarships for yoga students of color to attend yoga teacher trainings in the greater Boston area (including our awesome partner studio, JP Centre Yoga!). YDI provides training tuition, mentorship, resources and networking opportunities to the scholarship recipients, and partnering yoga studios contribute their own share of scholarship funds. This class is for any and every body who wants to support this work.
